Needles break for lots of no good reasons, especially the last one you have in the middle of the night, with a deadline. AGGGH! If it continuues to do that, have the timing checked, but, it might just have bent enough (fraction of a millimeter) to hit the stich plate or the foot, or snagged on a tread or.........
