I think it's also a case of what Morpheous refered to as 'residual self image'. Once a person has accepted their situation as dead and passes onto the spirit realm, they revert to their true form (losing any injuries or deformities from the time of death). It's possible that when that self image becomes balanced, clothes are subconsciously added, like when we dream, we are seldom naked, but often wearing our favorite clothes and jewellery. You're right about that, I think. It's the self image... It would explain why Obi-Wan appeared old, and why Anakin appeared young. It fits in both cases. The other thing that makes me think it's a 'self-image' spirit, is that the last time Anakin actually saw his reflection, would have been when he was in his twenties, he would most likely have not seen (or wanted to see) himself as he was beneath the mask, so his only self-image, would have been from when he was still in his twenties.
