When I made my Sith belt I worked my way from the front center outward. I wanted to make sure I got the holes punched properly so that the 2 small straps would have the right curvature and lay right, against the wide strap, as they crossed over one another..
I used these paper fasteners as temporary "rivets" to hold the belt together as I worked my way around it:

When I make my pauldron mock up, I'll use these in place of rivets in the poster board. Then I can make sure they move properly, trimming where needed. Then these pieces will become my patterns.
