Alright... here's the scoop---
Tanzan, your costume is fine. I knew it was fine when I saw pics of it the last time you posted it, even though I am not the final say on who's accepted. I also got a sense of the kind of costumer you are... you want your costume to look the best that it can look, and you are making it the best based on your means. I also feel that you are not the pompous type who will argue his point beyond reason. You heed what members have to say, and you value others' opinions. Your costume is a good variation of the Anakin costume, and that's basically what most of our costumes are.... variations based on one character or another.
Please, we want everyone to know that the tja council are always trying to work with our members as well as keep up the standards of costuming that we feel fits the club's intended purpose as outlined in our mission statement:
Article I. Mission Statement
The Jedi Assembly is a worldwide fan-based group for Star Wars Jedi costuming enthusiasts. It is our intent to further enhance the Star Wars genre by recreating movie-accurate Jedi costumes and props for our enjoyment, as well as others. We encourage Jedi costumers at all ability levels to join and share their knowledge with others.
We have a costuming code in place because everyone needs ground rules to follow. Without them it would be an anything goes, free-for-all. But you have no idea how many people try to get around the rules, and the reasons they give for having to wear a bathrobe! To us, they're just excuses to get in with a shoddy costume. We can usually tell who is serious and who is out for a club joining romp on the internet. And our code is always subject to change as we are always aware of the needs of every level of costumer. We won't lower our standards by any means, but we're not so exclusory as to accept only absolutely perfect costumes. Where's the fun in that? The fun is in the process, the making of.... the pursuit of the pen caps and the rivets and the mysterious crinkly fabric which still eludes me...
Simply stated, we're here because we love the SW theme, specifically the Jedi theme, and we have found comradere here as we share ideas and experiences and give each other advice on how to better recreate the jedi costume... the look of screen-accurate jedi, with a little bit of our own personalities thrown in. So, you have some thread on your collar... would it look more jedi if you took it out? Well, maybe, but some members have actually embroidered their tunics with stitching that looks exotic but still looks jedi... so what of that? The point is that Tanzan's costume is quite different than the off the shelf karate gi. It's well thought out and well assembled and fits within the guidelines that we've set for color and style--- and even if he never takes the stitching out... it's an excellent costume as it is. Could it be better? Yes. Could mine be better? Yes! None of our costumes are Trisha Biggar specials... but there's a certain level of dedication that we share that sets us apart from the guy who's gone off on a Rubies' jedi holiday weekend.
Am I making any sense, or was that just a ramble of sorts?
