Our Jedi Code does state that Karate Gi's are NOT allowed as a component of a member's costume. There was no mention in Jedi Linnear's membership request that his overtunic was a Gi. I think his costume looks really good myself. Perhaps that should read "unaltered Gi"? It seems that they can be modified to look OK.
There is one thing that I can't tell from TanzanLinnear's picture. Do the sides of the tunic have split hems? Split sides, the collar stitching and sleeve length are the features that give away a gi.
I don't think any Jedi tunics have split side hems. If they did I would have it on mine! Straight side seams look just like a sack on me, which is why I made them angle outward on my tunic. Guys with no hips can wear straight side seams and look fine, but other body shapes need a little accommodation.
