(I also guess) - if the "gi" has been altered and doesn't look too much like a gi, maybe the council would allow it... but I wonder if allowing a gi would make a precedent and make more and more GI-Jedi around here... While yours look kinda cool, others wouldn't... a costuming association is all about look... Olos, you're right, we've thought about that problem of "let in one gi and you'll get twenty". That's an issue being discussed by the council right now. Most gi's that show up are turned away, but the few that have be allowed in are accepted because the alterations done are enough so that it doesn't look like one, and it blends well with the rest of the costume. Also there are several members with gi's who were accepted before we thought about having a rule like that. That's also in review. Now I can tell it's a gi right away, like I said somewhere before, the stitching and construction give it away... I've done martial arts so I'm very familiar with the different types of gi's as well. But not everyone can tell, especially if it's dyed or altered. Tanzan that's a nice look. I like the sleevless robe. The whole thing looks great on you! The only thing I would work on is the several rows of stitching around the collar trim. Like Ani said, you can probably pull most of it out. Sometimes dye doesn't take to thread because it's synthetic and not cotton or a cotton blend like the rest of the fabric.
