Jedi do not have formal wear as such, but, sometimes do wear slightly more formal looking robes for delicate diplomatic missions where a less battle ready look is needed. They are still practical, but slightly finer in feel/look. I know I read this in one of the novels, but forget exactly which one, hint,( not a EU or NJO, haven't read that many of those)so try the Apprentice or Quest or something like maybe The Approaching Storm, (it might be that) or something of that type.
