Ok, I have to chime in on this one.
While I am a Big Star Wars Fan, I have to be honest, my Sci-fi love started with Star Trek.
I loved the original series.
I at first hated the Next Gen, but grew to love it as well.
DS9 was a little shaky at first, but got better, and stayed mostly consistant.
Than came Voyager, or as I like to call it "Vomiter" This series began a number of inconsistantcies (Spelled wrong) of the already established Star Trek history. Than came the Next Gen Movies. which in my opinion just trashed that history.
S.T. Generations "Gag-erations"
S.T. First Contact "First F-Up"
S.T. Insurrection " Intermission" Not bad, like a long two hour episode with better special effects.
S.T. Nemesis "Never Mind"
Than came the last (Thank God) installment,
"Enterprise" Oh, wait I mean, "Entrails" because what are entrails? The left overs of a dead carcass. This pitifull excuss of a star trek show just completely trashed any remaining pre-established star trek history that may have been left.
And who can we attribute the down fall of Star Trek to, none other than Rick Berman himself. He allowed this destruction to happen, so that is whom I blame. Thank God Paramount canned his moronic butt.
Now I have to say, it does now matter what kind of show you are doing, whether it be a sci-fi, drama, action, comedy, whatever, if you have a pre-established history, and than you turn around late in the series, and start changing that history cause there is a new producer onboard... You are going to lose viewership. And that is exactly what happened with Star Trek.
As for them making this academy days movie, I just do not think it is going to work. I believe it will just drive one last nail into Star Treks cpffin. Why? Cause you are again, going back and try to mess with something that has already been gone over. Perhaps not with fine detail, but it have been touched upon, and a history established. And as for trying to get some other actors to pull of a youngKirk and Spock... well.. I just do not think it will work. I perdict its bombing at the box office. Sorry folks. But that is my opinion. The opinion of a very die hard raised on Star Trek Fan, who knows Star Trek Inside and out.
