Try and locate a local Rodent Rescue group, they are in most areas, check w/ the local vets, they'll usually know about them as will your local humane society or ASPCA or local Animal Control Dept.

If I was near you, I'd have really considered it, I love rats. I used to have them when I was younger. They are good critters and great pets.
