Dragon Con in Atlanta GA, is like the Mardi Gras of costume conventions! This September will be my fourth year in a row going. I had the pleasure of meeting Leda and Jauhzmynn last year. 
You are never going to experience a convention like this anywhere! Up to 40 000 people attend per day- and roughly 1/8th are not in costume!
As Leda said- it's surreal. The only disappointment is that it is only 4 days- I wish it could be a month long!
I usually bring three costumes with me- here are some pics from 2005:
In my Jedi robes with a great Darth Maul.
In my US Colonial Marines gear (from "Aliens").
And with Master Leda Em-Borr in my Wrath of Khan captain's uniform.
If you can swing it Siri, make plans to go! There are many members of the TJA going this year- You will love it! ;D
