Make sure you talk to lots of people who live in Florida before taking the plunge. The cost of living is going up here all the time (though no where near Long Island standards). And there are other things....the hurricanes, the bugs, the heat and humidity that make air conditioning a necessity. Summer brings high utility bill months in Florida. The nearly complete lack of decent public transportation. Or even sidewalks. I'm only here because I got a decent job that's worked out very well. If I could just figure out how to get the same job somewhere else, I would.
And did I mention the bugs?
