My father was 3/4 Irish, 1/8 Scot, and last 1/8 was a guy named Davenport of strictly New England Puritan descent. My mother was 7/8 New England Puritan descent and the other 1/8 were some late-comer Germans to American (arriving in the early 1700s). So, on my father's side I have a thin ancestry of mostly Irish potato famine refugees who didin't write down what county of Ireland they came from. And on my mother's side I have a huge, fat ancestry (of people who conveniently stayed in Connecticut and Massachusetts for ten generations, except for a very few far travellers who ended up in Vermont and New York) that might have been even bigger save for some conspicuous inbreeding.
