I'm a big panel goer, meself, at least at DCon. First year i stuck primarily to the writer's track and last year I spent an awful lot of time at the new scifi/fantasy lit track, occasionally jumping over to MOTF and the skeptics/sciency track. On downtime I wander the open areas to gawk at all the awesome costumes or hit the art exhibit to drool. I usually hit the dealer room at least twice in the four days - once to wander and twice to make purchases, should I acutally find anything (usually just T-shirts from Off World). But it's so crowded it makes me uncomfortable - same reason I end up avoiding mega-popular things like the Serenity panels, it makes me feel claustrophobic! Evenings are for filk, if I can manage to stay awake! Two years running and I've yet to get to the drumming circle or the dances because I decide to take a "nap" ... and then don't wake up again...
I don't know a lot of people yet, so I don't hook up with friends... Though I did meet some of you fine folks last year at your MOTF panel and am looking forward to seeing you now that I've talked to you more! This year I'm hoping to try a larger variety of things instead of sticking to just one track.
At smaller cons, like MegaCon in Orlando, I only have the one day to be there so I spend it hanging out with local friends, cruising the dealer room, only one or two panels, then mostly just watching the fabulous display of pure geekery!
