I already am a member of the 501st and have been for several years...I have an Imperial Officer's uniform ....
As far as Jedi in the 501st....only "Dark Jedi" and Sith are even considered....Mara Jade is included because she was the "Emperor's Hand" at one time...only the costume she wore in that role is accepted...I think.
As far as what to wear to what event...as always...it depends on what the person in charge of the event or the sponsor is looking for...I have worn my Jedi to many more local 501st events than my Imperial Officer...I leave the decision of what they want me to wear up to the person in charge of the event...if they don't care..then I usually wear my Jedi. It really depends a great deal on the event in question...
