I just found this at Vogue Fabrics. On special, $3.99/yd. Ordered 4 yds. www.voguefabricsstore.com/store/product.php?productid=2384&cat=77&page=1It is 55% linen / 45% rayon. Looks very close to the obiwan fabric no? I called the rep and she told me it should be washed before it is cut, and that the finished garment should drape very nicely if removed promptly from the dryer. I'm gonna try the Kyle Katarn shirt out of this. Wish me luck. EDIT: I called them back and after talking to the rep again (to verify the weight and "hand") I added another 8 yds ... guess I'll have 3 tunic sets for D*Con '07! ;D ~ Koda

Did you get my voicemail Rick? Check the website or call their 800 number (it's on the "Contact Us" link on that page, I didn't notice other colors 'cuz I was looking for off-white for the Katarn shirt.

P.S. You wanna be safe, get 7 yds at least. That is if you want to stay with the full-length tabards in the back.

Koda,
I remember your saying that your first tunic is too hot for the warmer months. Since so many "linen" clothing items are now about half rayon, I get the impression that heat retention is not as much an issue as with poly or other synthetics. Is this correct?
Nice looking fabric. :-)

Correct. Rayon is made of cellulose, which is a natural source. Much better than polyester and other synthetics.
Fabric looks great and it's a very good price.

Kryy, My hope is that the rayon helps keep the linen from wrinkling so much, and that's the opinion of the phone rep at Vogue Fabrics too. I have a couple 100% rayon shirts that are very cool in the heat, and I know Linen does very well in hotter weather too, so hopefully the blend will work OK. Master BP, I'll help you on the new outer tunic if you need. I've made enough now to fake my way through one for somebody else. ~ Koda

wow Koda that is awsome thanks No problem Jarek. I'll always try to hook up my people. I've been web-crawling every other day for just the right fabric for the Kyle Katarn shirt. Hopefully this is gonna be the "look" I need. ~ Vonnor

Just got the fabric today. It is a bit darker than in the photo, more like the Osnaburg with similar darker flecks sprinkled throughout. It is just heavy enough to hang nicely and not be sheer. The crinkle is very uniform and well pronounced, but a tiny bit tighter than the photo might suggest. The drape is fantastic! Very flexy but flows well. Lots of stretch of course across the grain, but very little along the grain.
If I am able to bleach some of it, I will make the Kyle Katarn shirt; it's too dark for that as is. If not, it'll just be another tunic. Albeit a very fine one. ;D

No no no... I discovered that the day after I posted this, Vogue Fabrics totally changed their website. I just hadn't updated the link yet. I corrected the link in the OP. Sorry for the confusion. ~ Koda p.s. but don't wait TOO long to order, or it WILL be all gone.

I tried to order and it came up with a warning stating that this company had a problem with their security certificate. Further navigation was blocked.

But the swatch I received is really nice. I love the slight speckly effect.
