For my over tunic I used a fabric called Calcutta. It worked very nicely, it wasn't to to hot. Although it was a little heavy. Has anyone ever heard of it or used it.

I've never tried calcutta fabric before, but fashionfabricsclub.com has some and close-up pictures of what they call "calcutta". It looks like a coarsely woven fabric that would be perfect for a Jedi tunic. Now, the samples I saw online were cotton/polyester blends, but it could be 100% cotton, too. I assume that the name, calcutta, refers to the weave and texture.

Yeah, that's the stuff I was looking at. It doesn't look that crinkly, though it is a little wavy. I just assume that they flattened it for the photo.
However, I don't think I'd want 50% polyester/50% cotton for a tunic. It might be little warm. I presume that you could find it in 100% cotton.

Calcutta is also sometimes called "Indian Homespun" in 100% cotton it would be a great fabric for a tunic, but has gotten very hard to find, perhaps they have just taken to calling it "Calcutta" I shall try that name around the Garment District and see what happens. I used to use it alot for medieval peasant costumes & stage stuff when I wanted it to look rough.

That's exactly whatl I wanted to use for my Tunic when I started looking for material for my costume, because it's easily available where I am. I decided against using it because it irritates my skin due to its rough texture, and its very similar to what people in mourning here wears during funeral processions etc...last thing I want is to have people think I'm in mourning whenever I put on my Jedi costume...
Its almost like coarse linen but coarser and rougher...

Is it a natural color or is it more tan? Also how badly does it wrinkle?

You can get it in alot of tan or natural colors if you get it at the right time. It really doesn't wrinkle if you're wearing it but if you just have it lying around it will get somewhat wrinkled.

I have just located calcutta cloth (crinkle cotton) at my Hanthingys in Joliet. My question is would you use the sand colored one it's darker than beige or the Ivory for a tunic or neither one? or wait to look for the natural color? The fabric stores are just starting to get their spring fabrics in. I don't know if it comes in a natural color. At the website above www.fashionfabricsclub.com/catalog_itemdetail.aspx?ItmID=J158Since I saw a Jedi tunic made out of it I really would like to make one to. it shows yellow calcutta so I'm a bit confused as to what to do.

Not being able to see the colors, I'd say Ivory sounds too close to white. Given a choice between ivory and "sand", I'd say sand.

Thanks for imput. I'm hoping that there is a beige out there available. I agree the Ivory seems way too light. The sand looks like it would make a good inner tunic. Since it's just coming out I'm going to look around 1st. I'm not really worried about making this a canon tunic, just an extra tunic to wear at non canon times.

I'd go with a sand as well, but you could get the ivory and if it's to light, you could tea dye it to a nice shade of lt. tan.

The sand color (i'm assuming that's what i have) is very dark. If you compare it to Obi-Wan's pants in Ep. 3 it's about the same color. I agree it is a bit irrating to the skin, but if you make an undertunic out of something else, i'm sure it would fill fine to you, Plo Strax-Avix. Although I found that it is very hard to find Calcutta where I live. I'm not all to comfortable with buying it off the web quite yet.

Most websites will send a swatch, so that you can see/feel it, that way, you'll know before you buy it, and some sites will excange it, though that's not as common.
