You do need to start first with wide shoulders so that the sleeves are too long. Then you pin the tuck in so that the sleeves are the right length, and then sew the two sides of the fold together. The tabbards will cover up any stitching.

Once our tutorials are on the website, Ani has some great graphics that really help in understanding.

cut the shoulders wider(longer) acoss the top seam, so that they are about an 11/2 inches wider there then they should be, attach sleeves, then tuck under and stich, the tuck goes from about 2 thirds of the way in the front to as far in the back, does not go around the entire armhole.

ok how wide should the tucks be. In AOTC Obi-Wans are seen beyond the tabbords. Is that necessary or can they be hidden under the tabbords? My tucks right now are 2" but don't go beyond the tabbords--I can adjust them just wondered by how much? thanks

A matter of personal taste, I think they vary, but they do not go around the entire armhole.

my tucks are about 1 to 2 inch in my latest tunic. They were usefull in adjusting the lenght of my sleeves something confortable and makes a good visual effect.

Thanks, that kind of what I thought, but I thought I'd double check with experts here.

Sorry for re-hashing this question, but I'll ask it anyways.
So you're extending the shoulder length on the tunic by about 12" or so, attaching the sleeves, then tucking in the remaining shoulder material to get that look?

I think that's what everyone is doing....extending the shoulder length on the tunic so that it can be tucked back. However, check your shoulder width; you may not need 12". I think I only used less than half that much.

The width of the extension would depend on how wide you want the tuck, but I usually do ir from 3 to at most 5 inches on the extension, the tuck is 1/2 of that width deep, which will shorten the shoulder to the proper width, and also adjust the sleeve length at the same time. Does that make sense?
