I will be visiting my family the first week of November, and going to Orycon 8-10 Nov this year. Is there anyone else who might be going? They always seen to have Mandaloran Mercs which I find amusing since Orycon has a weapons policy so strict they don't even allow lightsabers, let alone blasters. Mercs with no blasters... such a concept.
I wear a cylindrical silver and black hairbrush on my belt for Orycon. The costume doesn't look right without something there.

Hey, you'll probably see a joint table again (mercs/CCg/KB/TDE/JA) for this con, as most people pass it up since the hotel it's at isn't very weapon's friendly. We tried to push the weapons policy as far as we could last year and the hotel let up a bit on it, we just weren't allowed to take "weapons" into the con proper, but out in the common hall area (fan tables) we were able to have our lightsabers, blasters, ect on us and on our table. The con contact for this knows one of the mercs on a personal basis which is why it's spearheaded by them.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can plan to attend this year either. PM to Ani.

I'll look for the Mercs table. I get around the 'no weapons' policy with a cylindrical silver and black hair brush. It doesn't look right without something there. And I have sneaked in a lightsaber and blade in my robe before. No problem with having it in the park outside.

Orycon was last weekend. I had lots of fun, but was limited since I was too cheap to pay for a room when my sister lives so close and the bus did not run as late as I would have wanted. And there weapons policy is still firmly in place. No weapons at all, not even imaginary ones. Now I did have my lightsaber with me (I have pockets in my robe for that) and on my way back from dinner with a college roommate, I took my new Ultrasaber out, put the batteries in and waved it around outside the hotel since it was after dark and it looks good. I put it away and was putting the blade back in my robe as I went through the lobby and talked with a friend and guess what?
Busted at Orycon.
If I hadn't left the con anyway (because Tri-Met really cut back and I didn't want to take the last bus) I would have had to take it to the security room to be held until I did leave the con.
I wear a silver hairbrush on my belt that is about the same size as a lightaber. The costume just needs something there. A friend of mine posted a picture of me in my Jedi with my hair-brush on Facebook.

Well, that's a drag. The lesson is do the lightsaber drill out of sight of the hotel. Sigh.
