Independant filmmakers just lost their biggest advocate. Star Wars will always be around as long as the fans are here and as long as they keep the world alive. But...what about all those filmmakers who still dream of making it on their own? Can filmmaking as a job even exist outside a major corporation anymore?

I was curious as to what you guys would think about this. Much as I would enjoy more star wars movies. I am kind of wondering where they would take place in the timeline as well.

Will Disney put Jedi in the new Star Wars, or will it revolves around funny characters such as Jar Jar, 3P0 and ewoks?
I hope new SW movies mean new canon Jedi props and costumes. New Jedi Order, maybe?

Another article said they are post ROTJ and continue from somewhere in the Luke, Han & Leia story. where I would love to see that... the original actors are too old now to make anything that was "right after" ROTJ.... I think it could end up rather pathetic... and... I don't think I could imagine anyone else in those roles.. and..

I read this article in the NY Post in disbelief! I immediately texted Cor-Al, too! I don't want to know what this means now that Lucasfilm is owned by the House of Mouse. Probably bad things.....Disney is a major entertainment corporation, the type that DID NOT want to have anything to do with Star Wars in the beginning. Those of you who have them, please watch the A&E documentary on The Maker ("Empire of Dreams") that came with the redone editions of the Original Trilogy released in 1997. You watched it? Opinions, please? Disney also put down Pixar. Ignored and mocked them, they did. Pixar came up with the idea for Tron before Disney did. When Pixar started releasing CGI best sellers, they took an interest in them, and were surprised that Pixar was a part of Disney until Disney FIRED THEM ALL and they became an independant film company (like Lucasfilm). At D*C in 2006 there was a pannel of SW authors (which included Aaron Alliston, I think). The topic was could an Episode VII be made. The pannel said "No". The reason? The authors have already written the Lucas approved storylines, and how could a movie be made when the story has already been released in print? What could Disney make an Ep. VII about? Maybe a film version of the Thrawn Trilogy? The Vong Invasion? The author's pannel said that 2006 was a good time to have the original cast do a SW movie AT THE TIME because they were at the age when Luke, Leia, and Han would be the ages of a post-Jedi galaxy, but they already wrote and published the stories that could be the script for an Ep. VII. The NY Post was optimistic that this might allow that live-action SW TV show that we've been hearing about since C3! Disney has it's own channel and might allow such programming to be produced and aired for the SW fans. It worked for My Little Pony! Hasbro has the HUB Channel, and for a cable channel HUB has made MLP quite popular again.

Welcome back Cal!
I still have not formed my full opinion on this yet. However, it does seem that I am leaning towards cautiously optimistic. They are basing the Lucasfilm acquisition much the same way as they have handled Marvel, and that hasn't been too bad so far. The movies have been good. And from what I understand Lucas has written the outlines for the new movies and they will be original material. They are looking for writers to flesh out the outlines, so maybe we'll get some decent dialogue as well. LOL. It seems like most of the same players will be in place, except Kathleen Kennedy - whom The Master picked personally - will be replacing George. Yet George will still be there for creative consultant. It will still have George's fingerprints for now, at least.
i did listen to the conference with the shareholders the otehr day. And I did hear Bob Iger say that they want to see more Star Wars TV (and and more than likely this will be on Disney XD channel - so make sure you get that channel in your cable or satellite packages!) Disney has the money and manpower to put into Star Wars. They did not spend over $4 billion to not get their money back.
I am also please with the talk about finding new distributors/manufacturers for merchandise to hopefully make it cheaper and easier to find. I don't ecpect to see the Disney logo over everything - you don't see it on Marvel merchandise or ESPN items, or Muppets and Disney owns all those also. Lucasfilm will be owned by Disney but I don't think it will be Disneyfied too much more than it already is.
But for now - where's my theme park!? And I don't mean Shanghai

I don't know about a theme park. They wouldn't let me wear my costumes because I could be mistaken for an employee.
I have a strong feeling that any future movies will ignore the EU and go off on their own tangent, sort of like the prequels did. I think there would be a much better chance of producing a good movie if they do their own thing rather than stomping around on something that's already been done. And SW has never been great with continuity.

As long as they show Luke as a Jedi Master, I'll be happy.
