That was fantastic in watching that land......
Leonard Nimoy gave a short but well written speech...
If I had the money I would got o NYC to see the shuttle.....A pice of history that I hope they will get to build more shuttles again......
Obama is not a real space person it seems so I hope the next president will give more to the shuttle programs inthe future!!!

Awwww...we in Ohio feel we got a bum rift with the shuttles. Home o Aviation - home of THE US Air Force Museum - and we didn't get a shuttle. Yet so many are on the East Coast. Oh well. I hope to see one someday

Yeah, so many places wanted shuttles and there are only 4 of them to go around. Too bad they can't have a traveling shuttle exhibit... That would be an expensive undertaking! I didn't see LN speech but a senator spoke and used the term Live Long and Prosper! It was a really good speech too! I almost had tears in my eyes Cor-Al any time you want to come to NYC you are most welcome at my place! Enterprise will be at the museum by summer.

Thanks for the invite! I may have to take you up on that someday. Someday I want to do NYCC and maybe I can see the Shuttle then

Seattle Museum of Flight actually built a building for a Shuttle, which was a requirement for the bidding process. Then we didn't get one and a place that hadn't built a place to house it did! It was very political. However, we got the Shuttle Full-Fuselage-Trainer, which I think will be better. It trained every astronaut who went to space and we will be able to actually go inside it. The Shuttle would have been a don't-touch display. The first pieces of the FFT have started to arrive.... public.fotki.com/kait/kate/piece-of-fft/public.fotki.com/kait/kate/space-gallery/

Nice pictures Kai! When is it ever not political? I find it odd that Houston didn't get a shuttle, and that there are 3 on the east coast. That senator from NY was the biggest lobbyist for it. His speech was a bit pompous, although I liked his use of Star Trek quotes... geek that I am.

I love this photo that's been going around on Facebook! Even emergency personnel standing on top of the firetruck to get a good view

WOW! is right!
Every one is a looking that day at the last time they will see a shuttle in the air, even if it isn't under it's own power.

Read recently that Enterprise was damaged while being transported by barge to the Intrepid. Someone in my Urban Sketchers group drew it's arrival on the Intrepid flic.kr/p/ccbmihAlso just checked on the one in Los Angeles, since we'll be visiting. Turns out the museum there can't even afford to move it from LAX! And there is no building for it yet. Makes me even more disgruntled. Harumph.

Makes me disgruntled too when the Air Force Museum here in Ohio has room for it outdoors at least until a new hangar could be built. Who knows - they might have another hangar elsewhere on base for it too. They do have a few hangars elsewhere that you can take a tour bus too off the museum site - one of them is the Air Force One hangar where all former Presidential planes are
Great picture and sketch there
