Personally I'm having trouble finding a decent pair of brown boots in the UK, due to having rather large calves, it seems that over 16" aren't really catered for over here unless you want to pay through the nose for them and with two younglings already straining my credits account, thats not for me. I stumbled across what might be a 'make do' answer for the time being. These; www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200659913439?var=500031360913&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649They make any short boots look like knee highs, and come in brown too. They are designed for Jodpur boots to be worn underneath, but I guess any boots could be worn, and end up with the same look as proper riding boots. My only issue is with the elastic part that goes under the boots, any ideas on how to disguse this? Plus with the many designs there seem to be for these, they can look fairly futuristic. Could I get away with them?

Good question,Honestly don't know. There's a couple of sites.Shoebuy.com has costume boots. You'll probably have to modify them for comfort. There are others.Off the top of my head can't remember them

I agree. Boots are a huge challenge. I've been involved in Jedi costuming since 1999 and only THIS year have I found a pair of boots with which I'm completely happy.

Yea, I can never find boots I completely like. I found soem this year too, but they are black. I bought them anyways, but am stillll looking.
maybe you can glue the covers onto the already existing boots to eliminate the strap?

It could be possible to glue and maybe even have press studs/fasteners fitted to take the strap away, or maybe cover over the strap with some more leather? Need to get sorted as I've been told in the costume thread that black boots are not allowed anymore.

It might help you to try looking around in the women's section when you go boot hunting. I was there with my sister two years ago when I found these awesome beauties: They are PERFECT Jedi boots, they complement my outfit completely, and the best part? They were on sale for 30 bucks! You can find a great deal too; just search everywhere. Women's sections will always have cooler boots then men's. Nobody knows they're lady's boots when I wear them, they just think "wow, those are great leather boots!" and they fit great. As for your option, I'm sure it can work as temporary alternative until you find your lucky pair.

Yep I think thats my only option really, I have tried a few ladies pairs on, but got some real funny looks while doing so lol. I'll take the wife with me next time. They are superb boots by the way.

Thanks! Yeah, the guy working there gave me some funny looks while I was finding the right size, but hey, it was TOTALLY worth it.

I found my great boots on-line at Zappos (a US site). You should consider searching on-line, too. It's hard to buy boots on line as I've returned SO many pairs that didn't fit. Zappos is nice because they pay shipping for returns as well as orders. For the boots that ended up being my best ever, I ordered 3 sizes and kept what fit!

I think that those shoe covers would be an acceptable substitute until you find the boots you really like. If you look at Anakin's boots in the movies, they really look like spats.
I found my boots by haunting ebay for months and months with searches for 'brown knee boots' and 'brown riding boots' along with my size, US. But shop a lot before buying anything, and avoid anything with pointy toes; those will never be comfortable.
FYI: this chart has shoe sizes for US, Britain, Europe, etc, for men and women, so you can see what the conversions are between the different sizes:

The local Asda store would you believe. We shop in there regular, but rarely look at the shoes aisles, as I live in 50's style bike boots.

Those look really good. To modify the spats, you could have the local shoe repair replace the elastic with leather straps that buckle or snap closed around the boot bottom, they were made that way when I was a kid, before elastic became the norm.
