Would you recast one, two or more of the actors in the Prequel Trilogy movies?
If so, who would you recast? Why?
Which actor would you cast as replacement? Why?

I would replace Hayden. I have seen some of his audition tapes and they were wonderful, but it never came through on film. I always found his Anakin to be lacking.
BUT I have no idea who I would replace him with

Could we recast GL? ;-)

Nobody- the actors weren't the problem. If George could direct besides saying 'action', 'cut', and 'faster and more intense', it would have looked better. I look at some of those takes that he chose and keep thinking 'they can do better than that!'
Don't get me wrong- GL is an amazing storyteller and a genius in filmmaking as a whole. Unfortunately, and I hate to say it, he isn't really a very good director.

I think Hayden was a good choice as far as 'conflicted' Anakin goes. I remember watching him a while back in 'Higher Ground', and his character was wounded, rebellious and vulnerable at the same time - really good acting. This is the character in Episode II. It was almost like he needed a recast in Episode III to become a major bad-ass that you could believe would be able to tear down Jedi left and right. He'd need to be someone with the physical presence to be a strong saber battler, at the same time he'd need the acting chops to keep up with the likes of Ewan and Natalie. (I use their first name cause we're soooooo tight, lol.) I could almost see Chris Pine stepping into the role (something about staring down that brow can be Vader-ish), but I think he and Ewan may be too close to the same age. Plus, he hasn't really proven his acting chops in my opinion (we all love Kirk, of course). Even though he's now a part of canon, Sam Witwer has stepped up in his acting on Being Human on SyFy and impressed me. Sure, voice overs and the face for Starkiller is great, but we also have seen how easily he can slip to the Dark Side, becoming the next Vader. If we do get in a pinch, we can always throw Robert Pattinson in there. We'll suddenly have millions of new SW fans and will be called 'Star-hards'? Plus, may re-write the entire series so Obi-Wan cuts off more than a couple of legs and an arm.

I know, I almost felt the rocks hitting the back of my head from here... ouch... lol. I have a feeling every girl will suddenly dress like Amidala if that happened.

Jar-Jar would be removed entirely (sorry Ahmed Best). Or, if you insist the character stay in, I would have made Jar-Jar a bad-ass Gungan hunter/ranger type, NOT goofy, but someone that knows field craft (kinda like Aragorn in LOTR) and would actually make a believable Gungan field commander later in Ep.I. He might have even been a boon to Qui-Gon later when bartering with Watto... maybe slam Watto up against a wall to try to make him take the deal ("Meesa HOT & PISSED OFFA, flying dude, weesa make deal!!"), then Qui-Gon intercedes as the "good cop" Jedi.
Hayden gone too... hmmm, who to take his place. First one that comes to mind is Heath Ledger, who could have EASILY pulled off a mentally disturbed and scary Vader-just-turned. There was just no believability in Hayden's turning to the dark side, for me anyway. Would Heath have been the right age by Ep.II though?

Actually Heath Ledger would have been 20 when Ep.I came out... might have been able to fudge an 18-yr old Padawan in 2002, and certainly 3 years later as Anakin-Vader. Just sayin I have my own "WTF" & alternate story to splitting up the Skywalker children (Yoda & Obi-Wan both training them on Dagobah instead) but this thread is about actors......

BTW, I'm not a prequel-hater at ALL. I still love Episodes 1-3, but most of the acting is admittedly not up to par. But forget the acting. The story and music (Thanks John Williams!) are what make the whole thing work. Take either one of those away and they'd fall flat on thier face. As clarification I was only putting down GL as a director, speaking as a fellow filmmaker. (it's amazing what jumps out at you after even one class...) As a FAN I still giggle at Obi-Wan's dry humor, shake my head sadly at Anakin and Padme' knowing their romance is doomed, and cry when Anakin leaves his mom, Shmi dies, and through the latter half of Episode 3.

I would also recast Natalie Portman. I always thought her performances were flat. Even her voice showed very little inflection.
Can we have Ewan for every role?

I completely agree with the Natalie Portman recast.....She just didn't seem she was enjoying playing that role at all to me....and it came through in the character

Ah! Something I can really sink my teeth into!
Okay, first off, "yes, yes, 100%, YES" to whoever said Hayden didn't have the physical presence needed in Episode III. I think he was perfect as the brash, teenage Anakin in Episode II, and he looked deeply tortured, and truly bad-ass there. But they TOTALLY should have re-cast for Episode III, and it would have been perfectly fitting since they had to re-cast between Episode I and II. They needed someone taller but young. Alexander Skarsgard, who plays Eric on True Blood, has the height, in spades, and the youthful appearance to pull it off, I think. It's hard for me to REALLY see him there because I can't imagine him with anything but blonde hair (He's a freakin' Viking! No...seriously, not only is the character he plays on True Blood a Viking, but in real life, he's truly a Viking!).
Now, as for Natalie, she didn't have a lot of emotional conveyance, especially in her face, but I don't think I would re-cast Amidala. I think the best part of the prequel trilogy was Episode II, and what made me believe in her as Leia's mom was when she was running around in that white outfit, blaster drawn, running around, kicking butt, and taking names! Right there, I saw Leia. Totally!
...May the Force be with you all....

I don't think I would recast, with the exception of maybe Hayden Christiansen, but you also have to remember that GL has always been hard to work with on set as far as getting what he wants out of his actors. Recall what Harrison Ford has said about him in some of the documentaries.
So, I guess I will lay fault for flat performances on GL's directing and not on the actors themselves...

I don't know about recasting the actors but I wish (stating the obvious) there had been more of an on-screen chemistry between Anakin and Padme. They needed better direction in that area. But we all feel that I think If I had to choose an actor for recast it would be Hayden. His performance lacked believable emotion. IMO
