umm i noticed that the boards here have not picked up that much popularity, the main site however looks like someone is forkin out some dough to make it look as best they can, my suggestion, not that i know all, but what might work, is 'recruiting' advertisement and a donation bar to the group for needed items regarding the site and group things that affect (right word?) the group in a whole, the advertisement and recruiting because, before i came on this board the only jedi costuming i knew of were the rebel legion, and i really dont like their policies on costuming in general, they stick solely to the movies and standard of the movies, while pushing for the best is good, it also cuts out the creativity that i believe this group has. I am new here so i dont quiet know how the budget works here, but i noticed that such things like cards work for normal 'street recruiting' while banners, posters and such work great at cons. if im speaking out of turn or something please let me know. -your fellow force user, Lan Longsword

The main website was built, an occasionally updated, by the son of one of our Council members. He's a pro. It was done for free.
Actually, per LucasFilm policy, we cannot accept donations. We can accept the work of volunteers, which is what the web site builder was
Rebel Legion, if you read their standards, are much more liberal than we are. The go far beyond the films and will allow black in Jedi costumes more readily than we. Many of us are members (and some even Leaders) of RL.

well might i clarify the forum is good, what i was saying is why is the main site so sleek and professional looking when the forums are not. forgive me, but i would not see how the donations affect the policy, it wouldnt be that you were making money for personnel benefit, but that of supporting the site and the volunteer work that is given to the community.
The RL subject, the last time i read the jedi standards they gave like four choices, you could be qui gon,obi wan, anakin or mace windu, so idk maybe they have changed it.

RL has really changed their code recently. They are getting stricter it seems. I heard from multiple sources at C5 that even their "generic Jedi" has really strict limits...like tabbards cannot go below the obi in the back (uh, look at Qui-Gon...his tabbards were long in back) and their colors are getting stricter too
::edit:: As I mentioned, this is what I heard from people, so it is hearsay. Upon looking at the RL costume requirements, they do list a generic Jedi. It is so far down the "Old Republic Jedi" page it may be missed. It took me a while to find it, and I was looking for it. I am not saying that is bad, I am just stating a fact

And as for the message boards, it is proboards and it is free. I do not know web design and I do not know how to move everything to a new host. If you have any ideas, please feel free to PM me

The tabbards don't have to end at the obi in back, it just states that they can end there. It might be worth taking another look.
My saber will be finished monday night and everything else is ready for photos. I'll be applying to both JTA and RL next week.

jedimom- ill talk to my friend, he also use to run a proboard then moved into his own website, ill pm u later about ideas and such. I personaly dont really like RL or the 501st (personal opinion) There is too much drama, they are too strict and they are not big fans of customs, but thats just what i have observed, no disrespect intended, probably for the best that we get off of the RL discussion as to not step on any toes. What about the 'recruiting' and advertising tho even if there is no 'donation bar' or whatever, surely we could make some cards or somthing, right?
Ayana- congratz, cant wait to see some pics ner vod, um..buddy my bad, good luck

I do have a lot of "propaganda" -- business cards, 4x6 cards ("How to Be a Jedi or Just Dress Like One"), papers that tell about our group -- I just need places to distribute them. With such a small group of "active" members, its hard for us to man a table. Although I do want to grow, so if anyone goes to cons, etc. and wants to place propaganda or hand out cards to other Jedi they see, all they have to do is ask for some.
I am working slowly on some other ideas to spread the word too. I have only been CO since January, so I am still learning and still trying to think of ways to get the word out

I agree with you about donations and have made the case over at RL but LFL is firm in that we cannot accept any donations outside the organization for our operating expenses. We can ask members to help pay for website, etc.
As JediMom said about proboards.

I agree with you about donations and have made the case over at RL but LFL is firm in that we cannot accept any donations outside the organization for our operating expenses. We can ask members to help pay for website, etc. That's because it get into copyright issues. So long as we don't make any money we are fine. Asking for outside donations crosses that line and becomes an infringement of copyright.

Well, thankfully, at the moment the website costs aren't too bad.... Council members pitch in and take care of it. We do appreciate your asking... when I was sort-of-new, I wondered... and asked... myself.

The RL subject, the last time i read the jedi standards they gave like four choices, you could be qui gon,obi wan, anakin or mace windu, so idk maybe they have changed it. To clarify, RL does have specific standards for face characters (and even from movie to movie), but they also have "generic Jedi" standards which appear farther down on the Costume Standards page(s). Many of us are members of both groups, and many or most of us fall in the "generic" category. Of course, I am often called Obi-Wan.... go figure....
