I think I may have posted already that my son's graduation was held at the Orlando convention center and the place is extrememly well suited for a star wars convention. The prombem IMO was always with the organisers of the event, not the hall itself.

In another thread about CV, it was said that NYCC was handling this one, so maybe there won't be a snafu this year.

Well....I think this morning convinced me of something.. If I go to Florida...it will not be in August...but rather to escape the misery of winter in the Midwest.
As I left for work this morning...it was 4 degrees with winds gusting to 50 mph...leaving a wind chill temperature of -30 degrees. My truck was frozen shut...I had to work outside in the cold to finally get in through the passenger door. Then I got to work and was outside with a bag on fire trying to help the guy who delivers parts to our Parts Dept get the lock off the back gate to deliver said parts.
The reality here is that with our economy in the rather crummy condition that it is... most of us have very limited resources and even going on a vacation is a luxury that most can't afford...or can barely afford..
If it is to be "for the fans" every effort should have been made to help make CV as accessable as possible with the optimum timing... Every Star Wars fan worth their salt would love to go to CV ... and it almost looks as though timing was a "gee...we gotta get this in before the end of 2010 decision" and did not really take the SW fan into consideration .... I could be wrong on that.. but as stated...previous Celebrations were planned over a year in advance.
I would have really liked to have seen CV go back to Indy... Indiana is at the population center of the US...and back to being in May with the best likelyhood of moderate weather... weather is of course never a "given" at any time of the year in any part of the country.
That being said... it is highly unlikely that I will attend CV

When I called about info about the convention center, before anything was going to be started after CV was announced, I had to find out about a few things since I have special needs for my mom, it was important we were next to the convention. I was told the Convention will be in the West concourse. If the convention center is as ac'd out as most are they'll probably have the temp down to the 60's in there. I remember C3---I was freezing & at C4 I was cold---& this was in full Jedi costume. I've been in the Disney Star Wars parade in 95 degrees & actually felt comfortable---I know I'm a bit strange on that point. I do know what the humidity feels like in Orlando. I'm glad it's in Orlando, at least I'm more familiar with it. I do love the weather in Orlando as well. Well, I do like the heat. I had to go to Orlando in August this last year just because it was so cold up our way in Illinois. It was in the 90's in Orlando & I loved it. apfoister.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=events&action=display&thread=4249&page=13info about tickets, etc. for those interested.

I have not made a definite decision on CV. Orlando is closer to me, and I'm used to the heat, so I could go, especially if I can get a ride, which would lower the costs quite a bit. And it's not GenCon and that is a BIG plus. The convention center also has a lot of hotels, and restaurants in easy walking distance.
However, I'm looking to see what kind of planning they'll be doing in the next few months. LFL may have dropped the ball on waiting until almost 8 months before the event to sign a contract, but now let's see what the company running CV does with it. They need to catch up.
If I see, in the next few months, announcements about events, exhibitors, guests, activities, etc., etc., I will feel a lot better about going. If not, it could just be another version of GenCon with even less planning time.
And CIII is the only event I've been two where I actually wore TWO Jedi robes, just because it was snowing outside.

Two robes? Wow. I remeber reading the temps dropped to the 30's- and 4-s in the daytime and folks had to wait outside in the rain to get in the convention center.

I'm very undecided about CV due to $ to fly and the humidity. (Also, since they announced so late, I already have an unresolvable conflict for the final day of CV.) I know that the convention center would be fine, but any outside line-sitting, including waiting for airport cabs, hotels, shuttle busses, and walking to the center would be a serious hazzard for me in high humidity. This should be my 10-year-survival Celebration, but I'll have to see lots more info about lines and such before I can commit. I definitely can't do both DC and CV!
Ani's right-CIII lines were frigid, and it did indeed snow that weekend! The rain puddles were up to 2" deep in line. I think my boots have finally dried out...
