I haven't seen the comet with my eyes though the pics are very nice.
I was able to get some pics of Comet Hale-Bopp when I was in college in March of 1997. The night is shot there was also a lunar eclipse going on. I had two telescopes from our observatory going with attached cameras. That was a fun night.

Here's a cool site that takes you on a daily tour of selected celestial objects.... kinda neat... www.astrowhatsup.com/Funny about that comet... it was just discovered not long ago... last year, I think. There could be any number of potential comets out there... they just seem to pop up.

From Space.Com...Skywatchers AlmamacSaturday, 01/20 Moon-Venus, dusk The thin Crescent Moon slips by Venus in the western dusk just after sunset. The closest approach, just less than a degree, is at about noon, but the view should be good as the western sky darkens. However, look quickly, because both Venus and the Moon set shortly after the Sun. The Moon appears slightly above and to the left of Venus, with increasing separation the farther West you are. That should be pretty... unfortunately for me, I don't have a clear view of the western horizon... too many mountains and trees block the view.

Brian May of Queen has written an astonomy book with two other astronomers, Sir Patrick(very prominent prof. of aston. at Oxford etc.) Moore &, well I'll have to modify this, it's called "BANG!" and has great photos, guess what it's about!

Just showing kids the planets opens their eyes and their imaginations to what's out there. It's one thing to look at a picture, but to see another galaxy with your own eye.... Truly puts things into perspective.

I htink that's what got me hooked.. I was a real little kid when I got my first telescope and saw my first planet. I htink I was 7 and I remember being in my parents bathroom with the telescope. Dad helping me work it and I saw Saturn for the very first time. I've never forgotten that.
