lol! Wow... last post was over a year ago.
I guess I see him as whatever stage he's at. In TPM as a little boy, then growing darker and more controlled by his emotions, then in the OT, as just plain evil. It's hard to see a cute little boy in that Vader suit, altough I DO think about it and how he got there. I still see him as evil and wonder if he really had a chance. He seemed to be inherently evil and Palpatine didn't help.

I don't think he could have been inherently evil, or Qui Gon would have sensed that, and while the Council was hesitant to train him it was because of his age and the influences on his life. He never would have saved Luke from Palpatine and returned to the flow of the Force if he was truly evil, at times during the OT, you could see in Empire & Return that he was struggling with his own feelings and the control that Palpatine was exerting on him. I think he let his emotions over-rule his sense of the Force and thought for awhile that he couldn't turn back. I think that Obi Wan was a bit to inexperienced to have trained him, it might have been better if Master Yoda had done that, but sometimes fate will determine the way of things.

I was at our Collector group meeting two weeks ago and one of the theories of one of the members was that Qui-Gon was secretly evil....and that he "sprung" Anakin on the Jedi on purpose to eliminate them... The guy is currently recovering nicely now...after agressive negotiations/discussion with me.....lol... Qui-Gon evil? NO WAY!

Qui-Gon is not evil! Even though he was trained by Dooku, he is NOT evil! Go back to that group with your lightsaber and cut him down. Oh, wait, I guess that would not be a Jedi thing to do. Okay, well just thrash him around a little bit more

How do you look at Darth Vader now? Still EVIL, even though he was a nice kid once . Lol

I look at him differently depending on which movie I'm watching; Ep I he's a nice kid, Ep II he's a typical teenager, Ep VI - V he's just plain EVIL , and at the end of Ep VI he's good again. Another question: Would it have been better if Qui-Gon left him on Tatooine ?

wow....yet another good question Toba......
I think the galaxy would have been better off if he was left on Tatooine....I have never been too sure about the whole "prophecy" thing......
I suppose his destiny was to be the one to finally rid the galaxy of Sidious....perhaps none of the other Jedi would have been able to do that ....dunno.....Sidious would have murdered the Jedi anyway...with or without Anakin (?)

Left on Tatooine? Hmmm, good question. THat makes you wonder then if Shmi would have married Cliegg, if the Tuskens would have stolen Shmi and all that. My guess is that she would have married to give Ani a Daddy anyways so there's be a lot fewer Tusken Raiders on Tatooine.
But overall he could have still come into power somehow. His mother was always encouraging him t do his best, to study, etc. SOmeone may have noticed his talents, bought out his contact from Watto, freed him, made him a mechanic or whatever and eventually he could have had his own shop. Maybe run for Mayor of Mos Espa, get into local politics and then run for Senator. Of course this would all have to happen IF Palpatine did no take over, o rin 10 years' time (which is unlikely at his age). BUT I don't think he would've gone as far in local politics as he did as Sith Lord.
BTW, who is the Senator from Tatooine? Do they have one?

"The Republic doesn't exist out here"
....that is what Shmi said when Padme asked her about slavery....so my guess is no.....they did not have a Senator...

But if Qui-Gon left Anakin behind, Palpatine would have lived and Luke and Leia wouldn't have existed. This would have left the empire AND both death stars around, wouldn't it?

HMMMMM..How do I see Darth Vader now? Well I'm glad there is hope out there that even the most evil can be turned back to the light side. We're not born evil we are made evil. Remember that sweet, very giving little boy in EPI 1. I see him in hope.
I'm still not sure if Anakin and Papletine knew about the twins. I think it was up to Obi Wan to hide them. Remember the Jedi council could not tell the sith had come back, so Jedi have the power to hide such information, maybe Obi Wan and Yoda used that power to hide the kids. Padame probably could tell Anakin was turning to the dark side. And they probably didn't see a whole lot of each other. They're not suppose to be married. Okay. I've rattled long enough.
