The mysterious Jedi who ordered the Clones......... I think that Sifo Dyas stands for Sidious, as in 'Darth Sidious' Not that I think Darth Sidious was a Jedi 10 or so years before TPM-- he was a senator. Any theories?

I think it was Dooku. My reasons:
1. The Jedi thought he left 'cause he thought the Republic was going downhill. 2. Around the same time, the ideas for a clone army were revoked.
So basically he was mad 'cause they wouldn't make a clone army. And he figured he'd prove them wrong by showing them how devastating such an army could be... by using it against them.
What's Dooku's first name anyways? If it starts with an 's'... unless of course you think Sifo Dyas stands for Sith Dooku. LOL

At first, I also thought that Sifo Dyas and Sideous were one and the same, but I then I thought about the fact that Palatine is Sideous, which makes things more complicated. Yoda and Mace seem to know Sifo Dyas, so I don't think he could be Sideous. Unless he went to Kamino as Palatine, but I don't think that's likely. So......................
I think that Dooku went to the Kamino and used Sifo Dyas's name. Why?
1. Sifo Dyas was KILLED over 10 years ago (I suspect by Sideous or Dooku). 2. Count Dooku left the Jedi Order about the same time. 3. The Kaminos used Jango as the genetic material for the Clones, and Jango was recruited by a man named Tyrannus, who we later find out is Dooku. 4. When Jango leaves Kamino, he goes straight to Dooku's hideout.
My only question is, have the Kaminos meet both Sifo Dyas and Tyrannus? They don't seem surprised when Jango says he was recruited by Tyrannus. If yes, then my theory is shot!! Or, they may not care who Tyrannus is. Or Sifo Dyas may have turned to the Dark Side too before he was killed and actually meet with the Kaminos to order the clone army, and Dooku just finished the job by recruiting Jango.

::tries to look innocent:: No one in particular... J/k! Actually, I think she means us because we were arguing whether or not it was a good movie. Am I right? (Probably not.)

Hmmm....... good theory Shoshana. I would agree, but then why would Tyrannus be surprised that the Republic put together an army so fast if he knew about the clones? *sigh* I guess it is a mystey to found out in Ep III...... Any other theories?

I don't think he realizes at first that the army is the clones that he ordered. I don't think that he believes that the Jedi would actually ever use it! Either that, or Lesser the Poggle and the Geonoisians have no idea that Tyranus has also been building a clone army besides the droid army he has ordered. So Tyranus is basically just covering his butt!!
Actually, now that I think about it, I think that the latter explanation is probably the correct one, considering that when Tyranus goes to meet Sideous, Sideous states that everything is going according to his plan.
I guess we will find out in EpIII!! ;D

Interesting topic indeed. It certainly has a lot of room for interpretation.
Based on what Obi-Wan, Mace and Yoda discuss, it sounds like Sifo Dyas was a Jedi Master. And, Sifo Dyas died over 10 years ago. Perhaps at the hands of a Sith Apprentice? Maybe even Darth Maul? That's just a shot in the dark there.
However, the Kaminoans ask about Sifo Dyas as if he's still alive. Is it possible that the person they believe is Sifo Dyas has visited with them more recently than 10 years ago? Also, Taun We says to Obi-Wan she wasn't sure when the Jedi were going to come and collect their order. In early bits of the script that were leaked, the Kaminoans described Sifo Dyas as the head of the Jedi Council. Curious! And, the order, which Lama Su says, is for the Republic. An order that is in the initial stages of being filled with 200,000 units all ready to go. And, there are another 1 million in development?
As for Dooku, Jango Fett refers to him as Tyranus. Tyrranus provided the subject for the Cloning. Perhaps the Kaminoans know or don't know Tyranus as Count Dooku.
I would say there's a fair bet that it was either Dooku or Sidious posing as Master Sifo Dyas. Perhaps before Dooku even left the order. In the visual dictionary, it's said that Dooku studied the Sith Holocron in the Jedi Archives quite a bit. Could he have turned before the death of Qui-Gon and just stayed concealed? All interesting questions.

If Dooku studied the Jedi archives, then it's possible he deleted the info on where Kamino was located. Yoda said only a Jedi could do that....... And the Kaminoans don't seem to care much as long as they get paid plenty and are happy with their clones. I agree, I betcha it was Dooku who orders the clones! I sure hope we get to find out in EpIII!!!
