Right. And so is grey. You'd be surprised how lighting makes a big difference! I thought Jocasta Nu's skirt was black until Kai saw it in person and said it's dark brown.

The way I see this: Luke had little to no knowledge to what was the cultural ways of the Jedi, but wanted to pass like a credible adversary... so he came up with the outfit we all know. Which in my mind isn't the normal Jedi garb.
From my point of view, accepting this as OK at TJA is an extension of what we are, as much as accepting EU costumes... which is why this garb needs to be replicated completely if used.
*** This is only my personnal opinion on the Luke ROTJ costume.

I wasn't expecting to get a response, but that is an interesting take on it. Of course I am partial to this outfit as this will be one of my Jedi Costumes, but I also have two others which are in line with the more traditional Jedi Garb.

My best advice to anyone asking about gray is to go read the Jedi Code/Costuming and Membership Requirements on our main website. There it very clearly states that gray is not an accepted color for membership. Reading these threads about gray will reiterate.
But if you want gray, by all means, go ahead and make it. You are the one who will be wearing the costume. It should please you before us. Membership in the club is not required to participate on our message boards.

Mon-Jas. Mmmmmmm, that can be a difficult choice. Your face will look very different with another hair color. Gray hair makes everyone look ten years older. However, since your beard is gray, then that may not be such a strong issue. Can you let it go a little gray and see how it looks?
At some point, NOT going gray starts to look ridiculous. There is a county commissioner here who is 85 years old and he has this dark brown hair that just doesn't look real.

I think that if there are on-screen jedi with gray hair, then it's canon, and you'll be ok. heehee.

Mon Jas, its the question of life! Even Hamlet didn't know what to do.... "To grey or not to grey, that is the question. Weather is is nobler to suffer the slings and arrows......." ;D

The Browns and Tans of the Jedi keep an "order" to their dress, sort of a uniform without it actually being identical. Note with most Jedi, they wear tabbards. Even Quinlan Vos wore them as a Dark Jedi. Anyway, with the colors, it keeps The Order looking a specific way, and the colors reflect the mission (light side of the Force throughout the Galaxy). If the other supposed earth colors were allowed, (e.g. greens, reds, maroons, etc), the chaos on who belonged and who did not would be evident. There are those Jedi that drift from the tan and brown norm (Luminara Unduli, Barris Offee, Aayla Secura), but the main body of Jedi, and of course the main Council members, stick to this color restriction, and of cours, style of tunic (tabbards), as most Jedi in the Universe.
As for me, I'll stick with the standard, and discard an crazy costume ideas. That's the way that is.

Are we referring to costumes or hair here? If it's hair then when my hair goes gray it goes gray even with my brown Jedi costume on. Mon-Jas when I met you at DC, you look very distinguished, so go with what pleases you.
