I doubt that they would have formal wear, the Jedi garb is usually based around practicality rather than elegance. The Archives master appears to be the exception that proves the rule...
I don't think that TJA should EVER lower its standards in costuming. The rules are there for a reason, and thanks to Schph's explanations those reasons are even more apparent.

Just a thought... What would "Formal" jedi garb look like? we see ther everyday stuff in all the movies....but? This would be better asked in "Jedi Costumes in General" to keep this thread on topic. I'm sure you'll get lots of answers in there. I know Nova had some good ideas once..........

I think this should be stickied and maybe even added to the rules as an active quote to pre-empt these questions. Guys, the more you fight it the harder it becomes it get in. I've learned this from my attempts to get into the 501st. the fact is - as a jedi you seek no fame, no glory, "a jedi wants not these things" and so you are generic - one of 100's. I wanted to be unique as well but trust me it's more fun to be just "one of the gang"

Well said, again, Schph. I agree, Drago, a Jedi seeks not these things. And I used my new mod powers to make it sticky. Good idea.
I was dressed, as usual, as a Jedi, for the From Science to Imagination exhibit. I was surprised by the number of people who asked me what I was dressed as, including a volunteer IN the exhibit hall with the Jedi costumes! I was dressed as an absolutely canon, generic Jedi. And I still wasn't recognized by people there to see a Star Wars exhibit.
There is room for individualized Jedi costumes. I have one. But I only wear it to some conventions. I don't wear it to events where we meet the general public.

I beg to differ on the non-individuality of Jedi costumes. My first one was modeled after Mace Windu's but the second one, based off of Ki-Adi Mundi, is very unique and feminine. The third one is even more unique and totally cannon. I have lots of fun designing my own costumes and making them original, yet they still scream "Jedi". It takes a lot of thought and effort to look unique as a Jedi and still look like you stepped out of the movies.

I will have one that would meet the Requirements for membership of this group and have one that reflects my Jedi's personality

By individuality I mean some of the "wilder" colors, prints, and designs, not the differences seen among them in the films.

ditto....I didn't mean for it to sound like individuality is out....as I noted at Dragon Con....in the most strict terms...you never saw my Jedi on screen either.... I mean ...down to the last detail....like boots, belt, specific cloth....etc... there IS room for individuality....we are not all carbon copies of each other...and that is a GOOD thing...

Excellent thread! One thing I'm discovering is that this is all taking much longer than I originally expected, but it's kind of neat, too... It's fun interacting with all of you and problem-solving and completing each item.

I'm very new to making costumes but not new to seeing costumes. I 'm a fan of alot of things not just one thing Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings so on and so on lol but for my costumes I want them to look good, weather it's my Klingon costume, my Fedi costumes lol that's what Klingons call them or my Jedi costume I put alot of time, money and sweat to make them. I will hear to the standards that TJA has made I have no problem with them. Thank you for your time.
