True!! I loved reading those books! Fett's my favorite bounty hunter.
Even if Mace did survive how could he have gotten off the planet without being discovered. If he survived the fall someone mentioned that there were many clone troopers around there. So wouldn't they have gotten him then?

Even if Mace did survive how could he have gotten off the planet without being discovered. Well Yoda and Obi Wan both managed it, and Yoda managed it when they were looking specifically for him. It doesnt seem to far fetched that Mace could have snuck away.

I think it will be up to the fans whether he returns, remember Lucas had intended Boba Fett to die in EP VI but the fans and authors braught him back in the novels that followed. Did they really? I'm not up on all the post RotJ novels... Wow, I'm surprised!

I dont like the idea of Boba surviving the sarlacc - although he was a very cool character, he was a bad guy and very ruthless; a thousand year digestion seemed to me to be just what he deserved.

Nah I liked it that he survived. If you read the books its very interesting on what happens. He dosen't just come out and say hes back. And some people get to actually see his face and live to tell the tail.

Ive changed my mind, to me there is no way mace could have survived. A good friend of mine a school has let me borrow his downloaded widescreen version of episode 3. I just finished watching it and mace was literaly fried. Luke was screaming over a papercut. I had forgotton how much mace was sparking not to mention smoking. Kinda reminded me of the Green mile in Pg-13 format, if you know what I mean.

Mace had less exposure time to the force lightning then luke did. That's the great thing about not showing "the body". No corpse leaves the question hanging.

Strange though, why didn't luke or maces face warp like palpatines?(unless you bring up the theory that his true face was coming out)

Hmmm....interesting question.... If I think about it, Luke was shocked much longer than Mace; and it has been said over and voer again (in books and such) that Luke almost died. So I'll have to disagree that he was 'screaming over a papercut'.
Then again, Palps may have lost some of his power over the years. So it would take longer to fry Luke when he was old than to fry Mace when he was younger.
Who knows?

well in one of the fan books "Truce at bakura" the day after the second death star is destroyed, Luke actually feels pain threw out his whole body and is sent to medical where he finds out that he needs major treatment due to palpy's "eletro shock treatment". I believe it was said his case was very severe and he actually could have died.

From the shooting script of Episode III:
"As MACE stares at ANAKIN in shock, PALPATINE springs to life.
The full force of Palpatine's powerful Bolts blasts MACE. He attempts to deflect them with his one good hand, but the force is too great. As blue rays engulf his body, he is flung out the window and falls twenty stories to his death. No more screams. No more moans. PALPATINE lowers his arm."
