I saw someone discuss this in another thread (sorry can't remember who it was!) and i thought it would be intertesting to see what people thought.

I'm a book fanboy junkie so I've pretty much read them all... I can't wait for the Legacy series to come out...

No... I don't read much post RotJ now. I really enjoy the prequel EU. But, I can't say that I would read back much further than the lifespans of our familiar prequel Jedi (not counting Yoda!), either.
So it's all about the main characters for me.

I might or might not, some authors just don't do it for me, but some I'd read because of who wrote them.

I don't know. A lot would depend on the story. A lot of the Eu books just didn't cut it for me. After a while they all seem the same. I really like Han and read mainly for him. The kids just haven't gotten my sympathies yet... even through the NJO

A lot would depend on the story and the writers. I think that the writers they've gotten have been good, but I'm not wild about the EU stories. Of course, if they somehow got Lois Bujold to write some of them, I don't care what it is, I'll read it.
What I'd really like with any future EU books is to NOT have any galaxy-wide-danger-end-of-everything threats. That's what turned me off of the NJO books. You can have interesting stories, etc, without constantly upping the ante on the bad guys. Pretty soon, they're so powerful, so overwhelming, so bad, that they don't really mean anything. It's just overkill. I like to think of the Sith, Palpatine, the one and only, as the Big Bad in the SW universe. Everything else should be smaller than him. But they can be just as cool and intense, especially in a book!
TV and movies are the worst for doing that. They keep going back for bigger Bad Guys, bigger blow-ups, more tragedy with higher body counts. Books don't have to do that; they have long passages and thought processes and other internal conflicts that CAN'T be done on screen, but can give you even more satisfaction than the Biggest Bad Guy Ever. I'm REALLY hoping that they realize that less is more for this proposed SW TV series.
The only book I read in the NJO series was the last one, The Unifying Force. And I feel like I've pretty much gotten the gist of all I need to know about it. The writing was good, the characters consistent, the SF-like background well done. And, oh yeah, the whole galaxy was in peril. Big Deal.

Pretty strong opinion, but im inclined 2 agree with u. Im not sure there's gonna b an enemy stronger than the Yuzhann Vong, cos they can beat Jedi Knights. I think more personal stories, with small enemies in the galaxy, but large for the person, if u catch my drift. Also, a story along the lines of I, Jedi would be good as well, a look into the training of the New Jedi Order, cos they use the Master, Apprentice system, and it would be good to c some of that in action, like there was between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan in TPM. U readin this, SW authors?!

Y'know, that's the truth! Maybe that's why I stand behind the prequel trilogy so much, GL did not try to outdo the original 3, even though the American audience seems to be conditioned to expect that he would. It's the smaller stuff that builds characters.

True. I believe the general consensus on this is now to concentrate on characters and their own private hopes and fears rather than galaxy-wide troubles. Just got the last 10 books in the NJO series from Amazon. Any reccomendations?

I've read both books from the post ROTJ EU and the Prequal EU. I"m intending to read the book that's about the Rise of Darth Vader and I also intend to read the prequal to Revenge of the Sith and get ROTS when its out in Paperbacks. I think I prefer novels with Anakin (Skywalker) in them but I might read other post ROTJ EU's still. Not sure yet I guess.
