The wrinkly thin-fabric robe is what got me, not the shape Yeah, that's what really hurts the look on the robes. They look like cotton. I wonder what the lower limit is on thin fabric for robes and still having it look nice? A thin, wool flannel/poly blend might have been better -- something that doesn't wrinkle at least! You can compensate for the thinness by doubling the fabric at the ends of sleeves and hood to give them more shape. It looks like they don't wear the robes for very long at all anyway. Also, the lady standing in her robe, with her hand in front of her, should have her arms hidden with the sleeves to look good. That's the classic Jedi stance in the movies. The tabards on the other Jedi aren't bad, they're just down to the hem of the tunics, which looks OK, but the really short ones look odd to me. Oh, and I notice that the sleeves on the lighter colored tunics are lined. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gons' tunic fronts are pinned in TPM??? Yeesh, another detail to look for.

Well pinned as in together, I'll have to find the picture I noticed it on, though yuo can kinda see it on this exhbit costume: padawansguide.com/sonnet/qg3.jpgThey found better methods in AOTC and ROTS though. EDIT: Is that a waist seam? So does anyone know the source of these? There are alot of pretty good details that show that someone did a TON of research, or that they got the patterns from LFL, or even bought extras. Even though they have ironed Pleats, the Jedi have similar excess fabric, just not usually ironed. Pretty cool nonetheless.

The pirate boots are probably left over from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride, LOL

It's a little hard to tell in the picture that the tunic is pinned and a costume displayed on a dummy could be pinned in all sorts of ways that weren't used in the movies. But based on that I shall definitely be trying a little square of velcro at the V-neck of my undertunic.
Wow! That is a waist seam! The obi obvisouly doesn't behave -- I noticed that Obi-Wan's obi in the movies tended to curl around his belt as well. That's another reason to use a two-piece tunic for movie accurate costumes, but I still think that an A-line looks just a good and are easier to make.
I don't know where Disney got their costumes, but I would assume that Disney had their own costumes made, probably with reference material from Lucasfilm and a trip to their costume storage. The costumes for use for shows in a park will have to take a lot more abuse and washing than movie costumes. And since it is Disneyland, of course those Jedi tunics are ironed! Neatness and tidiness are Disney trademarks.
I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the boots are leftover from some pirate activity. The movies turned out so well, they must do some pirate things in the park other than the ride. I went on that ride on my one trip to Disneyland years ago; it is the second-easiest ride in the park, right behind 'It's a Small World'.

I no longer have inside contacts at DisneyLand. When I lived in SoCal, there was always someone I knew working there. As one friend put it, almost every teenager growing up in Orange county "works for the Mouse" at some point. I think one friend is still in the hat department but I no longer have her contact info. At one point, if you saw a hat on a character, she made it. There were a few professional costumers in the SCA there and most of them worked for the Mouse at some point.

The Costumes are pretty nice. I don't care for the robes or the boots much but the tunics are great for what they are doing. Almost wanan corner one of them and ask where they got the costumes and go track down from there until you get a pattern heh

... And no trim beyond the obi either... You say the collar does not extend below the obi. I haven't been able to find any pix that show the tunic front, where it is not covered by the tabards. As I have a tunic on the sewing table as we speak, I'd love to see that (I'll stop my collar at the obi then ). Do you have a pix that you can post or link to? Many thanks!! ~ Koda "TheGuyWithTheTaperedBeltStuds" Vonnor

Atually, in the above Disney picture, the edge of the tunic is visible, below the obi, between the tabards, and there is no collar edge there. So, it looks like the collar does end at the obi -- especially for a two piece tunic. The collar ends at the top piece.

You're right, Koda. Just looked through all my FIDM photos and the tunic edge is hidden by the tabbards on every one.
I'm skeptical of these Disney costumes. We do not know their source. Disney might have done the same guessing we've all done from looking at the costumes or they might have had pattern info from Lucas. I've found no one in SoCal yet who can confirm the source. I've asked around and so far have only received speculation.

OK, good deal. Thanks for the info, ladies.
I guess I'll go ahead and take the collar all the way to the skirt-hem then.

Hmmmm... I guess I'll defer to the Bluefalcon expertise. No collar below the obi. Now if I can just figure out what to do where the skirt meets the tunic-top at the collar... ~ Vonnor

Take a look ^
Honestly since the costumes are so close to Mace Windu's, especially the overall look, lengths, details and especially the Obi, I woudl not doubt that they were given one to copy.

Looks like they stop the cross-body angle of the tunic-front at the obi too. Doesn't it appear that the edge-line of the skirt front panel falls to vertical from the obi to the hem?
And many thanks for posting up the pic, Primrodo. I know what a hassle HardDrive Diving can be sometimes.
